I am building up a couple of LTC mining Rigs (I have access to free power via solar setup.)

I have organised 6 x 5970 cards with risers & extra fans etc

  1. What Motherboard can I source now from suppliers that is current & available etc ?... (I assume AMD not Intel) ?

  2. I know the LTC scrypt uses a diff algorithm and needs more Ram for CPU mining... if using cgminer or Reaper for GPU mining how much RAM should the MB have for a 3 x 5970 setup ?

  3. What AMD CPU should i get for the MB ?

  4. PSU Can I use a brand like SuperFlower instead of Corsair AX 1200

  5. PSU Can I use 2 x 1000watt to run a 3 x 5970 rig instead of 1 x AX 1200w ? 5.1) WIll the 2 x 1000watt setup use a lot more power than 1x 1200watt (or is it related to how much power the 3 x 5970 cards are drawing ?)

Litecoin info seems to be thin on the ground

Ok have answered own question...with result for others to gain from

1)What Motherboard can I source now from suppliers that is current & avaiable etc ?... (I assume AMD not Intel) ?

AMD-MSI 990FXA-GD80 has great overclocking capabilitys and supports 4 x (x16 PCI-e slots) ~US$180 new

2)I know the LTC scrypt uses a diff alogrythm and needs more Ram for CPU mining... if using cgminer or Reaper for GPU mining how much RAM should the MB have for a 3 x 5970 setup ?

~2 gig to run the cgminer or reaper for the OS as we use the CARDS ram etc..system ram only relevant to CPU mining

3) What AMD CPU should i get for the MB ?

AM3 Sempron LE-145 will run on the above board and ~US$32...only need bare minimum

4) PSU Can i use a brand like SuperFlower instead of Corsair AX 1200

Sure they are gold rated i.e +80% effeciency..this is the important part for your mining to be profitable..chaeper PSU can be around only %60+ effecient and that loss is your money going up in heat etc

5) PSU Can I use 2 x 1000watt to run a 3 x 5970 rig instead of 1 x AX 1200w ? 5.1) WIll the 2 x 1000watt setup use a lot more power than 1x 1200watt (or is it related to how much power the 3 x 5970 cards are drawing ?)

1 PSU will always be better than 2 due to effeciency etc...a 5970 card uses about 300+watts so always make sure you have enough to run with a buffer of ~10%

Also they will only draw as much as is being used :D

Actually you need system RAM for GPU mining also. Equal amounts.

1) There are multiple time-memory tradeoffs for scrypt. 2) GPU's have memory too. –  Nick ODell Apr 10 '13 at 19:48

I'd go for 4gb ram personally for just that little bit extra $ but mainly because you can install 64 bit OS (not that it really matters for a mining rig) but like I say for a couple of quid extra (or dollars in your case)

:)
