A few days ago, I asked a question about the servers being infected with a virus, and my question was closed. In less than a few days, all the media is talking about a spyware called Pegasus.
The Pegasus project Revealed: leak uncovers global abuse of cyber-surveillance weapon Spyware sold to authoritarian regimes used to target activists, politicians and journalists, data suggests.
People across the world have been targeted by authoritarian governments using hacking software sold by the Israeli surveillance company NSO Group, according to an investigation into a massive data leak.
Pegasus is a malware that infects iPhones and Android devices to enable operators of the tool to extract messages، master seed, private keys, passwords, photos and emails, record calls and secretly activate microphones.
Pegasus has been around since 2016 and it was also believed to have been used to target people earlier as well. Pegasus is a versatile piece of spyware and as soon as it is installed on a target's device, it starts contacting control servers, which can then relay commands to gather data from the infected device. Pegasus can steal information like passwords, contacts, text messages, calendar details, and even the voice calls made using messaging apps. Further, it can also snoop using the phone's camera and microphone as well as use the GPS to track live location.
