If someone purchases bitcoin on a market place (say gemini) and then transfers it to a hardware wallet (say ledger live), how does the ledger live app immediately show an updated "account balance" even though the transaction surely hasn't been confirmed yet.

Does ledger live run a node that is simply checking mempool for broadcasted transactions associated to the address of interest?

If person X sends btc from their gemini account to their hardware wallet, the transaction is broadcasted and almost immediately ledger live will update to show the results of that transaction. What would the steps of the code be for ledger live to do this?

  • Yes most wallets do that, they see the broadcasted transaction and display it as unoconfirmed
