I am a Bitcoin noobie, apologize if this is a stupid question. The reward for mining is hardcoded in the codebase here - https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/src/validation.cpp#L1362. My doubt is, what stops people from increasing this value in their codebase ? Is this validated by other nodes on the blockchain ? Is there some integrity check for all nodes ? Again, apologies if this is a stupid question.

  • Why would a person want to accept blocks that nobody else will accept? What purpose would that serve? I mean, I can modify my copy of the bitcoin core code to tell me that I have a billion bitcoins if I want. But if I can't convince anyone else of it, why would I bother? Dec 20 '21 at 6:22
