Can you know in advance how much change (in btc) you'll get back when you send a certain amount of btc?

E.g. Let's say your wallet.dat has been active before and now has 0.125 in a few addresses and you intend to send 0.045. Can you know via bitcoin core if you'll receive change and how much will it be?

The reason I ask, has to do with passphrase. If you generate a passphrase but also has an old copy before the passphrase, and afraid you might lose/forget the passphrase, you'll be able to spend all your btc with the old copy (If you didn't receive anything since), accept you won't be able to use the btc change, that return to your wallet after sending from it. Hence, I want it to be zero or very close to zero, when I send something.
