I'm setting up a Lightning node using bitcoind and lnd and this guide:

How to Install and Use the Lightning Network with bitcoind on the Bitcoin Mainnet

It's been an interesting couple of days, but I've made it to step 8.

It looks like lnd is running and I've created a wallet. But when I do lncli unlock, even though lnd says it was successful, the line lncli newaddress p2wkh doesn't work because it appears lnd shutdown immediately after the unlock:

I wouldn't expect there to be active channels, because I haven't got to that step and I have no bitcoin in my wallet to set one up.

Are there default channels in the database (channels.db, I presume)?

Network consideration

Is it because the node may not be getting to the outside world? This is on a desktop, connected to a laptop which is sharing the laptop's wifi to the desktop. I have the router forwarding 9735 to the laptop, which has rinetd forwarding that port to the desktop. Unless I've configured something wrong, I would assume that should work.

Thanks
