Questions tagged [xpub]

An "extended public key" can be used to generate additional public keys or sequences of public keys that all correspond to a single master private key. This scheme permits a counterparty or online device to derive many unique output scripts without having access to the private key material. It is a concept related to the "hierarchical deterministic wallet" scheme defined in BIP32. On mainnet, extended public keys use the prefix `xpub` in Base58 encoding.
