Stellar is an open source protocol for value exchange. The Stellar protocol is supported by a nonprofit,, which aims to expand financial access and literacy worldwide. was founded in early 2014 by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim. Stellar now has its own Stack Exchange site: It started out as a fork from Ripple, but had since undergone significant changes, especially in the consensus protocol.
